is the aim of Standard Concrete Industries, a division of
Basic Industries Limited, with the implementation and operation
of a Total Quality Management (TQM) system. Total Quality
means full involvement of our customers, employees, management,
and suppliers. It requires a stretch of energy and the imagination
of all our employees to continue towards a never-ending destination.
HISTORY
OF THE COMPANY
Standard Concrete Industries Limited was established in 1968.
The major shareholder, at the time was the CSR Company of
Australia. In 1974 CSR was sold to Pioneer Concrete Services
of Australia. In 1977 Standard Concrete bought Marlow's Limited
in Nasinu, transferred their Lami operations and consolidated
at Nasinu.
In
1989 Standard Concrete Industries was bought by Basic Industries
Limited, a company jointly owned by fijian Holdings Limited
(50.1%) and Milburn Holdings Limited (49.9%). Today, Standard
Concrete Industries is a major division of Basic Industries
Limited.
CURRENT
POSITION
Today Standard Concrete Industries consists of four divisions:
Masonry, Quarries, Ready-mixed concrete and Bitumen Sealing.
We
have 9 concrete plants, 5 quarries, 1 masonry factory, a complete
mobile crushing and screening operation, 2 concrete pumps
and 3 bitumen sprayer units and ancillary equipments.
Ready-mixed
concrete plants are located in Nasinu, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba,
Labasa, Levuka. Taveuni, Tuvalu, and Vakabalea and the quarry
plants are located in Nadi, Nasinu, Semo and Valuable. |

PRODUCTS
AND SERVICES
Standard's service capability and product range is very broad;
in ready-mixed concrete we supply concrete of all grades,
we also produce specialty products such as Spray-Crete and
colored decorative concrete. Our masonry product range includes;
super blocks, plaster blocks and interlocking paving. The
quarry products are used in concrete, masonry, landscaping,
erosion prevention, and sealing and road construction.
Standard's
products and services have been used successfully in many
types if road, building and civil construction locally and
overseas for example: We have supplied Denarau, Regent. Fijian,
Holiday Inn and Outrigger Hotels, Nadi. Taveuni, Nausori,
and Tuvalu Airports, FSC Sugar mills, Emperor Gold Mines,
Kings and Queens Highways, Monasavu and Vaturu Damn, Kings
and Queens Wharves, FEA Power House, SPG sports facilities,
Hospitals and a number of PWD roads, reservoirs, water reticulation
and sewage projects in Labasa, Savusavu, Taveuni, Nadi, Lautoka
and Suva. Our products continue to be used in many Pacific
Island countries including Kiribati, Samoa, Tonga, and Tuvalu.
We
are enormously proud that our business has so proudly and
so visibly contributed to the growth and development of our
country and of our neighbours.
NATURE
OF MAJOR MARKETS
Our sales and domestic and we also export to Pacific Islands
nations. We have three business segments has a Business Segment
Manager who is responsible for the customers in that group
coordinating the market information for each segment, and
assuring that relevant data flows into the strategic planning
